SHELTER

On average, TRM Ministries provides shelter to between  220 - 240 unique individuals every night.

We strive to provide a safe, comfortable and hospitable shelter for individuals in transition from homelessness to permanent housing. People come to us from a variety of backgrounds and for a variety of reasons, but they all share one thing in common: they have no where else to go.

EDUCATION AND JOB READINESS

We offer a broad range of training programs for our guests to help them get back into the work force, as well as addressing potential lack of education or other issues that led to loss of employment.

Our program participants engage in work detail, job training, spiritual development and goals such as time management, money management, personal assessments, and other goals designed to help them in their physical, mental, and spiritual development.

HOMELESS REHOUSING

We understand that restoring housing after experiencing homelessness takes a community of support.

We have partnered with local housing organizations to assist our guests in reclaiming life after experiencing homelessness, which often starts with restoring housing.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING INTERVENTION

While slavery involving race was abolished 150 years ago, sex and labor slavery exists today in communities across America and even in our own community. We understand that it hides in plain sight, exploiting the most vulnerable.

Our guests are some of the most vulnerable in our community. Systemic problems in society often create vulnerabilities that may lead to homelessness, substance abuse, incarceration, exploitation and human trafficking. Our mission is to offer supportive services and restoration as individuals journey toward hope and healing.

STREET REACH

Street Reach locates campsites and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness in the Topeka area and provides food, water, winter and summer gear, and an introduction to TRM Ministries and how we can help.

Since its inception, Street Reach has successfully partnered with numerous agencies and churches within the community to assist unsheltered individuals with housing, substance abuse treatment, mental and physical health services, food, clothing and other services. If you see someone who needs help from our team, please call our hotline at: 785-230-8237

MOBILE ACCESS PARTNERSHIP

In May of 2021 TRM began a new initiative alongside Valeo, Stormont Vail and the Topeka Police Department to engage with unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness in the Topeka area. The Mobile Access Partnership (MAP) program focuses on getting services out to people who need them in our community and are unable to come to TRM to receive services.

These services provide mobile bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities, a mobile health clinic, a mobile food pantry and kitchen, among others.

PREPARED MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS

TRM Ministries Food Services is responsible for the planning, preparing and serving on average 13,560 meals per month in our dining room 7 days a week.  The food served consists primarily of food donations from the community.

TRM guests are invited to our dining room three times a day to receive a hot, nutritious meal or sack lunch.

COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Each year we provide our community with approximately 450 sack lunches and 2,000 food boxes weekly. Anyone is welcome to come to us and receive food.

We hand out food boxes to the community every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m at our Distribution Center, located at 401 NW Norris.

OPERATION FOOD SECURE

Operation Food Secure (May 2020-August 2021) was an initiative of TRM designed to strategically address food insecurity in Northeast Kansas through “neighbors helping neighbors”. Recognizing that we can go farther together, OFS built a network of over 70 churches, nonprofits, tribes, and neighborhood improvement associations to distribute boxes of fresh produce, cheese, and dairy products from the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program.
